Clinical Measurement Unit

Our Clinical Measurement Unit (CMU) provides specialist diagnostic tests to support the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. Services include Cardiac Physiology, Neurophysiology, and Respiratory Physiology.

Cardiac investigations include echocardiograms, ECGs, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring, exercise tolerance tests, LVO assessments, and cardiac device implantation and follow-up. Neurophysiology services include nerve conduction studies and EEGs, including sleep studies. Respiratory services include pulmonary function testing, spirometry, CPAP support, sleep studies, oxygen assessments, and exercise or chemical challenge testing.

The team delivers high-quality diagnostics to support safe and effective patient care.

Where we are based


The Clinical Measurement Unit is on route 103 at Walsall Manor Hospital.

Selected Respiratory Physiology and Neurophysiology services are also provided in the Community at Pelsall Village Centre.

How to access the service


All referrals must be made by a clinician using the electronic referral system. Patients cannot self-refer.

If you are referred to the service, you will be contacted with details of your appointment, including the location and any instructions to help you prepare.

Test results will be sent directly to the referring clinician, who will review them and arrange any necessary follow-up care or treatment.

Our current operating hours are Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm (excluding bank holidays). During busy periods you may be offered an appointment outside of these hours.
