Rickell’s midwifery dream

For Rickell Bailey becoming a midwife didn’t come easily but she never gave up on her dream career.

The 34-year-old tried for seven years to become a midwife then went into adult nursing as she always knew she wanted to care for and support people.

“I had a friend who went through multiple pregnancies in a very difficult situation during this time and I was there for her all the way,” she explained.

“I still really wanted to be a midwife and have now been with Walsall Healthcare since 2014 so I am proof you shouldn’t give up on something you really want. For me, nothing is as fantastic as seeing the look in a mum’s eyes when she sees her baby for the first time. I feel so proud to be there at the most special moment of her life knowing I have supported her and will continue to support her with breastfeeding and skin to skin.

“Childbirth reminds us that women are absolutely amazing!”

Away from work – and once lockdown is relaxed – Rickell enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
