Trust celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in Science

We are proud to support International Day of Women and Girls in Science at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

The day recognises the role of women and girls in science, not only as beneficiaries, but also as agents of change.

In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and empowerment, the United Nations General Assembly declared 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in 2015.

Catherine Dexter, Research and Development Manager at Walsall Healthcare said: ”My interest in science stemmed from undertaking a placement as an undergraduate at The Institute of Brain Chemistry and Human Nutrition which looked at the links between birth and diet.

“This placement sparked my interest in research and nutrition and led to me undertaking a MSc in Human Nutrition at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine followed by a career in Research.”
