A wealth of potentially life-saving information has been greeting visitors of all ages to Walsall Manor Hospital today as healthcare staff highlight World Sepsis Day.

Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection and occurs when the immune system overreacts to an infection. It is sometimes called septicaemia or blood poisoning.

It is estimated to affect more than 30 million people worldwide every year - but not everyone is clued up on the possible symptoms.

An information stand will be near Costa Coffee of Walsall Manor Hospital till late afternoon to raise awareness of the condition and encourage people to have more of an understanding. The stand will also benefit Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust staff who want to find out more.

Visitors will be able to find out information on:

• Sources of Sepsis
• Symptoms of Sepsis
• Risk Groups
• Sepsis Prevention

Quality Improvement Facilitator, Deb Mason said: “Sepsis can see a patient deteriorate incredibly rapidly so early detection is key.

"We want Walsall people to be tuned into potential signs and symptoms to help us help them keep their loved ones safe. Remember, it is ok for healthcare professionals as well as friends and relatives to ask, is my patient ok?”
