Your Outpatient Appointment at Walsall Healthcare

The outpatient department at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is here to provide you with expert care across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. We understand that visiting a hospital can sometimes feel overwhelming, so we’ve put together some information to help you know what to expect.

We offer many specialist adult clinics to help manage various health conditions. These include:

  • Heart conditions (Cardiology)
  • Nerve and brain conditions (Neurology)
  • Eye conditions (Ophthalmology)
  • Joint and muscle conditions (Rheumatology)
  • Diabetes care
  • Skin conditions (Dermatology)
  • Kidney conditions (Renal)
  • Breathing conditions (Respiratory)
  • Digestive conditions (Gastroenterology)
  • Healthcare for older people (Elderly Medicine)

We also have a Dermatology Day Case Unit for patients who need minor skin surgery.

For surgical needs, our clinics cover:

  • Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT)
  • Bowel and colon conditions (Colorectal)
  • Weight management
  • General surgery
  • Vascular conditions (blood vessels)
  • Trauma and orthopaedics (bones and joints)
  • Urology (urinary tract and male reproductive system)
  • Dental issues

We also have a specialist urology clinic for minor procedures. You might also attend one of our nurse-led clinics for things like dressings or phototherapy treatments.

We always aim to see you as quickly as possible. However, sometimes there might be a delay to your appointment time. We’ll do our best to keep you informed:

  • Announcements will be made every 30 minutes to update you on any delays.
  • If you’ve been waiting more than 30 minutes and haven’t heard an announcement, please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of staff. They’ll be happy to help.

We want to make sure you have all the information you need.

  • After you’ve seen the doctor, if you realise you’ve forgotten what was said, or you have another question, please tell a nurse. They are there to help you; please don’t leave with unanswered questions.
  • Before you leave the hospital, please make sure you know who to contact if you have any worries or concerns. You can ask your consultant or nurse about this.

We’re here to support you every step of the way during your outpatient visit.

Share Your Experience: The Friends and Family Test

We want to hear about your experience in our Outpatients department. Your feedback is really important to us, and that’s why we use the Friends and Family Test (FFT). It’s a quick and simple way for you to tell us what you think.

The FFT asks one straightforward question:

‘How likely are you to recommend our department/service to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?’

You’ll have a choice of answers, from 1 (🙂 extremely likely) to 5 (🙁 extremely unlikely).

It’s easy and quick to complete the FFT. After your visit, we’ll ask for your feedback via a text message or a voicemail on your landline. This feedback is free and completely anonymous.

Your responses are vital because they help us understand what we’re doing well and where we can make improvements for your benefit.
