Clinical Nurse Specialists

Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) are specialist Nurses who offer advice and support to children, young people, and their families with all aspects of their health relating to epilepsy and asthma. We work in hospital and in the community, including schools.

Specialist Nurses are a central point of contact for professionals and families. We can offer patient-centred care including health advice, training and information about epilepsy and asthma.

Our role also involves education and leadership in improving healthcare for our service users through evidence-based care and mentorship.

Where we are based

We are based on the Paediatric Day Surgery Unit, Route 223, but work throughout the hospital.

How to access the service

Epilepsy: All paediatric patients with a diagnosis of epilepsy are offered support from the epilepsy Nurse specialist. Referrals are typically made on diagnosis but can also be made by other professionals. Parents can contact the Nurse directly to discuss support they may need.

Asthma: Patients with uncontrolled asthma can be referred by their GP or by the hospital team on presentation to the hospital with an asthma attack.
