What We Do
The Promoting Access to Mainstream Health Services (PAMHS) team helps people with learning disabilities in the Borough of Walsall get the healthcare they need. We work across primary, secondary, and community services to make sure individuals and their carers have a smooth journey through the health system.
Our flexible and responsive support includes:
- Providing personalised care and support.
- Promoting equality and making sure “reasonable adjustments” are made to how health services are delivered.
- Helping with clinical appointments, including arranging longer slots and attending with you if other support isn’t available.
- Ensuring adjustments are met during appointments—for example, by avoiding jargon and using communication tools like Makaton.
Where We Are Based
Our service operates from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Please note we don’t have weekend or evening cover, but our hours can be flexible to meet your needs.

How to Access the Service
Referrals to the PAMHS service can be made by health and social care professionals like social workers, community nurses, and GPs.
We also accept self-referrals, which can be made by:
- An individual with a learning disability
- A carer or friend
- An advocate or IMCA representative
- A nominated court representative
