Orthoptics

The Orthoptic Department provides specialist eye services to both paediatric and adult patients. The service assesses and treats problems involving how the eyes work together, eye movements and visual development. The most common conditions we see are squints (strabismus), lazy eye (Amblyopia), glasses prescriptions (Refractive Error), eye movement problems, and binocular abnormalities. The department also specialises in the visual field testing of patients and ocular imaging.

Where we are based

The Paediatric Ophthalmology and Orthoptic Department is on Route 123, Walsall Manor Hospital.

The Adult Ophthalmology and Orthoptic Department is on Route 007, Walsall Manor Hospital.

How to access the service

Patients are mostly referred to our service via their GP / Health Visitor or Optician. Some referrals we receive are via our primary screening facilities and we also accept internal referrals from other departments or wards in the hospital. All patients who are assessed in our clinics require a referral to access this service.
