School Nursing Service

What We Do

The School Nursing Service works with children, young people, and their families to support their health needs both in school and in the wider community. Our team provides a nurse-led service for all children from the start of reception up to the age of 19, including those who are educated at home.

Every school in Walsall has a dedicated school nurse, and you can find their details on posters displayed at the school. Our team includes highly trained professionals such as:

  • School Nurses with specialist public health qualifications.
  • Community Staff Nurses with experience in child health.
  • Community Nursery Nurses with training in child development, sleep, and healthy eating.
  • Clinical Support Workers who help with specific tasks and clinics.
  • School Nurse Administrators who are your first point of contact for enquiries and appointments.

We work closely with schools, GPs, and other professionals to ensure children’s health needs are met.

Where We Are Based

Our school nurses are NHS employees who are based in community health centres across the area. You will not find them based at the schools themselves, but they do visit regularly.
