Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust wants to help young people understand what it’s like to work in the NHS. Giving students this experience is important as it helps them make informed decisions about their future careers.
What is work experience?
Work experience helps students prepare for the challenges of the working world. It allows them to become familiar with the skills and attitudes needed in the workplace and recognise the demands of working life.
Work experience placements benefit both students and employers by:
- Improving the quality of future employees.
- Helping to develop new recruitment methods.
- Influencing career choices.
We offer placements in suitable departments for local students who are considering a career in health and social care. These placements can be in both clinical and non-clinical departments, such as:
- Pharmacy
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational therapy
- Medical and long-term conditions
- Surgery
- General administration
- Finance
The goal of the placement is to give students a valuable introduction to the ‘world of work’ within a healthcare environment, including the expected behaviour and attitudes. All work experience is unpaid and subject to eligibility and relevant background checks before a placement begins.
How to apply
Our online application form will be available on the website during the first week of May and October. We offer five set placement weeks throughout the year, and the specific dates will be listed on the form.
The form will be removed from the website once we have reached our maximum capacity for candidates. All applications must go through the Placement, Employment and Experience Team to ensure that all necessary risk assessments and initial training are completed before the placement starts.
Please note that applying for a placement does not guarantee a place on the programme.
