The Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses (PDSNs) provide specialist inpatient, outpatient and community care and support for all children and young people and their families with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes who are between the age of 0-19 and are under the care of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust Diabetes Team

PDSNs and admin support are based at Walsall Manor Hospital on Route 221.
Paediatric diabetes dietitians can be contacted through the diabetes office 01922 656570.
The team consists of Paediatric Diabetes Consultants, PDSNs, Paediatric Diabetes Dietitians, a Paediatric Diabetes Psychologist and admin support.
How to access the service
Referral pathway:
- GPs provide SAME DAY REFERRAL TO Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) for ALL suspected diabetes regardless of type
- All those newly diagnosed from ward to be referred to team via Careflow connect
- Any GP referrals with suspected Type 2 diabetes contact PAU on-call Consultant or Diabetes Consultant direct
