The Paediatric Virtual Ward is a healthcare service that allows children to receive hospital level care at home instead of being physically admitted to a hospital ward. We use technology and remote monitoring to manage the child’s condition whilst they stay in a familiar environment with their family. Families are contacted throughout the day by the Virtual Ward Nurses and Doctors to assess their condition, and each child or young person has a tailored treatment plan specific to their condition. We take care of children and young people with a variety of conditions
Where we are based
The Paediatric Virtual Ward office is in the Paediatric Emergency Department waiting area, ground floor of the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre at Walsall Manor Hospital.
How to access the service
The Paediatric Virtual Ward accepts referrals from the Paediatric Assessment Unit, Paediatric Inpatient Ward (Ward 21), Paediatric Emergency Department, and the Postnatal Wards.
A paper/electronic referral form is completed and discussed with the Virtual Ward Nurses.
The Paediatric Virtual Ward is open for referrals 8am-8pm, seven days a week. Out of these working hours parents/carers should contact the Paediatric Assessment Unit with any concerns.
