General Surgery

What we do

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides a wide range of general and specialized surgical procedures. Our surgical teams are experts in various areas, including:

  • Bariatric Surgery: A highly specialized service for morbid obesity, offering laparoscopic (keyhole) weight loss surgery for patients who have not succeeded with other weight reduction methods.
  • Breast Care: Our integrated diagnostic unit offers a “one-stop” service for rapid access to examinations and tests to diagnose both benign and malignant breast conditions.
  • Colorectal Surgery: We diagnose and manage conditions of the lower bowel, such as colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, fistulae, and abscesses. We are leaders in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
  • General Surgery: We focus on acute abdominal issues, including problems with the appendix, gallbladder, and hernias, with many cases treated using laparoscopic techniques.
  • Pelvic Floor Service: We offer a combined colorectal and gynecology clinic for female patients with mixed fecal and urinary incontinence or other pelvic floor disorders.
  • Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery: Our consultants provide comprehensive care and surgery for benign upper gastrointestinal conditions, including hiatal hernias and anti-reflux issues.
  • Vascular Surgery: This service diagnoses, treats, and manages diseases of the arteries and veins, such as Peripheral Vascular Disease and Venous Disease.

Our teams also include Clinical Nurse Specialists who provide advanced clinical care, education, and research support across our colorectal, vascular, breast, and bariatric services.
